Looking in CLT

My, oh, my! Where to begin?! I'm 45. I have joint custody (1/2 time) of two wonderful little boys who are the cutest things in the history of cuteness. I also have a grown son in college in England.

I am close to being officially divorced (yay!) but you should know right off the bat that 1) my ex and I are committed to co-parenting our kids and 2) I don't hate her (well, usually). Some people, especially the jealous types, have an issue with that, so I just want to be very upfront so that I don't waste your time.

I'd say I have a great sense of humor, but let's be honest: we ALL think that about ourselves! Mine ranges from dry/subtle to silly and all points in between. If you like Monty Python, Woody Allen's stuff from the '70s, British humor, etc., then we will get along just fine!

Fifty-cent tour of my life: born and raised in the South but moved to Europe at 19. Did my BA there (Norway and France) and in my twenties and early thirties moved back and forth between Europe (Spain, UK, Italy) and the US (Atlanta, DC, Chicago, Boston). Moved to Charlotte in 2013.

I am terrible at small talk but consider myself an engaging conversationalist otherwise.

Yes, I am an atheist (lock up the babies!), but no, I do not insist my partner be a non-believer. Having said that, if you want to talk to me about the Bible, be prepared: I have read it in full and likely know it better than you do. ;) It's a big reason I am a non-believer. ;)

I am very liberal. If you voted for Trump, you're gonna have a bad time. ;)

I am a total nerd. I love science and sci-fi. But I am not truly hard core, I guess: never been to any conventions (unless you count a space symposium), worn any costumes or played video games! Yet...

Movies/TVs (since that gives you an idea of someone's personality): I LOVE going to the cinema. I have a wide range of tastes in films, but I also just love the experience of going to the movies. (Pro tip: dump your M&Ms into the popcorn for the perfect sweet/salty combo!) TV: The Americans, Better Call Saul, Game of Thrones, Star Trek reruns, Big Bang Theory (one of the few shows for which I make an exception about my anti-laugh track rule), pretty much any nerdy science show (as long as it's not pseudo-/junk science), Real Time....well, you get the idea. I try not to watch too much TV, though. Life is too short to watch TV 24/7!

Love theater! Anything from Shakespeare to light comedies. London is my favorite place for it. But no musical theater! You can go with a friend! :)

Music: I love everything from classical (my first love) to rock (a taste I acquired only in my late teens). But for live music, I am strictly classical/opera. Love rock, but not live.

For a living, I am a program manager. I recently quit my job because it was boring me to tears. Looking for the next great thing now. I am not wealthy, but I have always been a big saver, so I can easily afford to quit a job and not have a panic attack trying to figure out where my next meal is coming from. In fact, I am thinking of taking some time off even looking for a job in favor of volunteering for a while.

I had some health issues (now resolved) that led to weight gain. I considered waiting till the weight was gone before jumping into dating, but I figured that if I could con you into liking me with some extra weight, imagine how much you'll like me when it's finally all gone. ;)

About you: if you read, travel, have a sense of wonder and curiosity, then we can almost certainly be at least friends. I don't consider myself to have a 'type' per se. I used to say I preferred a certain physical appearance, but I have found so many exceptions that it seems pointless to be so limiting. Deal-breakers: jealousy, possessiveness, lying, passive aggression. That's pretty much it! Oh, one other thing: please don't believe in silly things like astrology and pseudoscience and conspiracy theories. It's a pet peeve of mine. Don't ask me my sign. :)
